Victory
in Jesus
Though
he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he
suffered;And being made perfect, he
became
the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Hebrew
5:8
And
they overcame him by the blood of the lamb and the word of their
testimony, and they loved not their lives unto the death.Revelation
12:11
1
Timothy 5:8
8But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his
own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
1
Timothy 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a
snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in
destruction and perdition.
6
Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body
of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8
Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live
with him: 9Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no
more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10For in that he died, he
died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but
alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:6-11
But
Jesus… He broke the power of sin and death. His death on the
cross didn’t just pay for our sins granting us a pardon, it
purchased our freedom. The chains are gone. Sin holds no power in our
lives as children of God. The Bible tells us that when we abide in
Him and live by the Holy Spirit, we can experience victory and
overcome sin.
So
why do we still struggle with sin as believers?
The
enemy is a liar. He deceives us into believing that somehow we are
still bound to sin. He tells us that we will always struggle with it,
that sin still holds power in our lives, and that the chains aren’t
really gone.
I
firmly believe in using the Word of God as a sword against the enemy.
Not only does Ephesians 6 tell us to do so, but Jesus used Scripture
to combat the lies of the enemy. The best way to come against a lie
is to declare the truth. So the next time you find yourself
struggling with temptation, start declaring the truth. You are
forgiven, redeemed, set free, and a new creation in Christ Jesus. As
a child of God, all you have to do is resist the enemy, and draw nigh
to God and he has no choice but to flee.

Bible Verses to Help You Overcome Sin and Temptation
-
There
hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man; and God
is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are
able, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that
ye may be able to bear it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13
-
Submit
yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from
you. Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse
your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double-minded. Be
afflicted, and mourn and weep: let your laughter be turned to
mourning and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the
sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. – James 4:7-10
-
If
we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness, we
lie, and do not the truth, But if we walk in the Light as he is in
the Light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of
Jesus his Son cleansesth us from all sin. If we say that we
have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If
we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:6-9
